Welcome to “The Specials” website! Below is some information you need to read before using our site. If you have an intellectual disability, please ask your support worker or parent to read this document with you.
By using our service you are agreeing to the terms set out below so please make sure you read them carefully. If you do not accept these terms do not use our site.
This website has been created by KADA Media Limited, a company based in the UK set up by Daniel May and Katy Lock who make “The Specials” web series with the housemates Sam, Hilly, Lucy, Lewis and Megan.
Our service includes different types of content: text, images and videos, as well as our website features and functionality, which you can access through various devices connected to the internet. Some of the content is free but you need to register an account and buy a subscription to access certain content.
Intellectual property
The site and its original content is the sole property of KADA Media Limited and as such are protected by international copyright laws and other intellectual property laws. Unless expressly stated all KADA Media and Licensor rights are reserved. The commercial music and footage in the series which is owned by third parties has been licensed to KADA Media for broadcast on all media worldwide except cinema release. For the USA territory, Season 1 & 2 of “The Specials” has been licensed back to us by OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network who hold the exclusive rights for the US territory. You may not copy, download, reproduce, distribute, lend, hire, sub-license “The Specials” episodes nor our additional content.
Registration terms
Age limit
You must be over 18 to register an account and buy a subscription. Those under the age of 18 can use the service with the permission of a parent, legal guardian or support worker if that person has their own account.
Our video content is largely appropriate for family watching, though Lewis does use a couple of mild swear words: once in Season 1 & once in Season 2. We also have some content on the site where people speak openly about some more challenging subjects such as diagnosis. Where this is the case we have given the subscriber the option of PIN-protecting this content, so other younger users who are in their household can be protected from accessing it without a parent or support worker present. This content will also be preceded by a video warning from “The Specials”.
Registration for private individuals
To subscribe to “The Specials” service as a private individual you will need a valid email address and must create a username and password. Your username will be viewable by other users if you post comments. Ideally use something based on your own name, but if you chose to make up a username, do not use one that could cause offense. It will only be possible for you to be logged in on one device at a time within your household. You are solely responsible for your account and should not share your login details with anyone else.
Registration for educational institutions, supported living homes & companies
Organisations wanting their members to able to access our subscription site should contact us to discuss their subscription requirements. We will discuss the number of unique users they need and can arrange a fair bulk-buy fee for this service. Organisations are restricted from using the series for commerical gain: members of the organisation must be given free access to our site once your organisation-wide subscription has been agreed with us.
Device compatibility with our service
We have endeavoured to ensure our service will work across a wide range of internet devices. However, we strongly advise you to check you are able to successfully stream the free content throughout our website before subscribing to the paid content. Once you have subscribed we will not be able to refund your subscription. Please refer to our help page for guidance.
Subscription options & payment
If you have tested your device (see previous paragraph) and it was able stream our content, you are now able to subscribe. All subscription durations will commence on the date of your successful payment through PayPal. Your subscription will not auto-renew, however, at the end of your subscription you will be emailed and offered the chance to renew or change your subscription. We reserve the right to change our prices and/or make paid-for content free as a special offer. You will be charged the fairest rate at the time of purchase.
You will be able to pick & chose from a combination of content subscriptions detailed below:
Per episode
If you pay for a single episode you will be allowed unlimited streaming of this episode for 7 days.
Per season
If you pay to watch all of Season 1 or all of Season 2 or both Seasons you will be allowed unlimited streaming for 30 days. You also have the option of paying to access both Season 1 & 2 for 365 days via an Access All Areas pass which includes the Xtra Special Zone (see below).
Territories that cannot subscribe to “The Specials” episodes
Broadcasters in the following countries hold exclusive licenses to show “The Specials” episodes and so we cannot allow customers from these countries to subscribe to the episodes. We hope the broadcasters in these countries will show the series again:
- Canada (OWN: Canada)
However, customers from these countries are free to subscribe to the Xtra Special Zone.
The Xtra Special Zone
Access to this additional, educational content can be bought separately or as an Access All Areas pass including Season 1 & 2. In either case the subscription will last 365 days from the time of purchase for unlimited streaming.
Privacy policy
Your personal data
When you register to become a member of our site you will be required to use a valid email address and tell us your country of residence. We encourage users to use some version of their full name as their username as we want anyone posting to our forum to feel they are making comments they are happy to stand by. You will also be given the option of uploading a picture which could be a photo of yourself.
Once you have bought any kind of subscription you will be able to post in our forums. If you post, your username will be published on the website, but be assured your email address will remain private.
Your email, username, password, country of residence and photo will be stored on our server and in our encrypted offline backups.
We will need to contact you via email from time to time in relation to your account with us and to inform you of updates such as a revised privacy policy or additional content.
If you decide to subscribe to any of our paid-for content you will pay through PayPal. We will receive a payment notification from PayPal. Any personal information you have given to PayPal will not be permanently stored on our server.
Your email and address will not be sold or rented out to any third parties. The only circumstance under which we may share your information is if we need to meet any legal requirements, if there is a question of fraud or to protect the rights, property or safety of KADA Media Limited or the people involved in production of “The Specials”.
We will keep your information for as long as you continue to have an account with our website. If you delete your account we may keep some basic information so we can keep a record of the fact that we should no longer contact you.
You are able to access the personal information we hold on you. To do this, please contact us. We will aim to respond within 5 working days.
Cookies
This website uses cookies for the following reasons.
- To prevent the auto-playing of welcome videos if you have already seen them.
- To find out if you have JavaScript enabled so that we can provide a better user experience if you do, and a work-around if you do not.
- To record your session ID if you are logged in, allowing you to provide your username and password only once per session.
- To find out if an account has already been registered on your computer, we can then prompt returning users to log in and new users to register.
By using this website you accept the use of cookies for these and very similar purposes.
Forum code of conduct
You cannot upload or post any content (images, video, text, audio or other) that infringes 3rd party copyright, contains explicit content or breaks laws. Our code of conduct is simple: be respectful and compassionate towards others. Do not incite hatred or discrimination or post insults, spam and commercial advertisements. We have the right to monitor all conduct and will endeavour to moderate the website. If you are concerned about another user’s conduct please contact us.
Cancellation & Refunds
Once you have subscribed we will not be able to refund any subscription fees.
You can delete your account by following the link at the bottom of your "My account" page. This will close your account so you that will no longer be able to log in. All of your forum content will remain attributed to your username. If you wish to delete all of your forum content, you should do so before deleting your account.
Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the site and your account without any advance notice if we determine you have broken the terms of this agreement or your content or conduct is unacceptable. If we decide to terminate your account your subscription will not be refunded.
Disclaimers
We can make changes at any time to our service. All information on our site and content may contain errors. If you find any, please let us know! We will endeavour to monitor the contributions of other members and moderate where possible. We may not continually add new content. Any issues that arise beyond the scope of these disclaimers can be addressed via the cancellation policy — or just give us an email and we’ll try and sort it out.
We reserve the right to re-edit the episodes of “The Specials” and make changes to ensure our continued ability to license this content (such as removing music tracks for which our license may have lapsed). Though our plan is to regularly add new content to the Xtra Special Zone, we can make no assurances to the regularity with which we will add new content and reserve the right to cease adding content. At this point the site may revert to a reference library of content and your subscription will ensure your continued access to that content until it expires.
If you send in contributions such as videos, photos and text, you are granting us the license to add this content to our site for public consumption. We will be allowed to make this content shareable through social media, or other media now known or to be created. This license will be worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive and royalty-free. If your contribution covers sensitive subjects we will not share this openly on our site as it may be visited by children, many of whom have intellectual disabilities. Instead, we will PIN-protect this content within the subscription area of the so parents/carers can preview it in advance and decide if it is appropriate to be viewed by everyone in their household. Please be reassured that while this content will only be accessible via a subscription within our website, we will offer you the option of sharing our upload (should you want this, rather than sharing your original media) via social media from our Facebook, YouTube and Twitter pages and it will not be exclusive to our website.
Changes to this agreement
We reserve the right to modify these terms and conditions at any time. An up-to-date copy of these terms and conditions will be published on our website. Your decision to continue to use the site will constitute your acceptance of these new terms and conditions. In the case of any changes to our privacy policy, you will be notified by email in advance.
Governing law
This agreement is governed in accordance with the laws of England & Wales.
