My younger brother has brain damage. What struck me growing up was that people didn't always treat him like an individual. People either seemed to be nervous around him or ignore him or patronise him. The great thing about The Specials is that in addition to being a great, entertaining show in its own right, it shows that people with learning disability have character, personality and individuality, and it breaks down that wall that people put up between themselves and people with disabilities. Hey, poppy here hillys sister, growing up I always found that people saw hillys disability before her personality and sometimes still do. This show has been great at showcasing hilly and her big personality and I love it for that reason! X
