TV producer/director Katy Lock and web developer Daniel May have teamed up to create this website and documentary series. Filming has been ongoing since April 2009 with Katy following the Specials around with a Sony Z5 camera, and them both editing in their flat's spare bedroom. The housemates provide the voiceover to the series and have also collaborated with Dan in the development of the website and as a result we hope this site is the Specials sharing their world on their own terms.
A lot of friends and family helped us along the way with this project. We would like to thank them all for their wonderful support — you all know who you are! A special mention though must go to the lovely Randip without whom this project would not have been possible.
Philip Spence is a web graphic designer and worked with Dan in creating The Specials' website. When he's not doing this kind of thing, he's busy drawing his Ninja Bunny comicbooks and working on his autobiographical comics.
John is a professional photographer who took the wonderful photos you see on this banner as well as our publicity photos. He is also an international artist and academic and is the director of PhotoInsight, an online art and theory website.
Moses worked as a researcher on the project, helping out with filming, logging the vast amount of footage we generated and using his discerning ear to pick out some of the music used in the series. He has just completed a course in video and film making and is keen to continue in this field.
The people of Brighton were so helpful and welcoming in general but there are some people and locations who deserve a special mention.
